Rafael Nadal- The new Champion
Mon, Jul 7, 2008
Yessss!!!! Whoo-hoo!!! I am really really happy for him! Even my dad is! It was such an Intense match yesterday, its so stressful to watch imagine playing. I thought that Nadal played awesome yesterday against Federer, because Federer was really making him run a lot but Nadal still kept on going!
Story
It started of really well for Nadal he was winning many games and won the 1st set very easily. The 2nd set was a bit difficult to win because Federer was serving lots of aces and playing really well, but Nadal won the 2nd set. But when it was the middle of the 2nd set the rain started to fall and they had to delay for 45mins.
So I think Federer gained confidence and energy. So thats why Federer won 2 sets after the rain. Nadal look really tired. It was really nail biting because their were a lot of deuces and the score was 2 8 40 for Nadal and 2 7 40 for Federer, but then Nadal gave it his best and won the set!!
I also felt really sorry for Federer because it looked like he really wanted to win the 6th time and you could see it in his face that he was really upset!
I also think that Federer did a fantastic job too because he actually played better than Nadal, if it wasn’t for that mistake he made (returning to slow) Nadal might not have won!
Interview After Match
Nadal
“It’s impossible to explain what I felt in that moment,” Nadal said after receiving the winner’s trophy from the Duke of Kent. “Just very, very happy to win this title. For me, it is a dream to play in this tournament. But to win, I never imagined something like this.”
“He’s still No. 1,” Nadal said. “He’s still the best. He’s still five-time champion here and I only have one, so for me it is very, very important.”
Federer
“I tried everything,” Federer said. “Rafa is a deserving champion. He just played fantastic. It was the worst opponent on the best court.”
